According to our Guide, the Southern Lapwing has only been seen in Costa Rica in the last couple of years, and is only now being included in its list of species. So we were all pretty excited to see them. Their position relative to the sun was unfortunate, as can be seen here, with the fairly bright sun not completely backlighting them, but at perhaps a 45 degree angle to them. I had to work these images with Shadows and Highlights, Curves/Levels, to try to bring out the detail contained in the scene.
