We have seen numerous Boat-billed Heron on previous trips, but they were typically enshrouded deeply in bushes and trees, and getting a clear shot has been difficult to impossible. As we toured by boat down the Tarcoles River, we came across this individual, perched on a branch, completely out in the open. I took way too many frames (well over 100!), which made it tedious and time-consuming to narrow down to a few representative shots.
