This Motmot was actually shot on the first day of the trip, when I was checking out the beautiful and extensive gardens behind the Bougainvillea Hotel outside of San Jose.  Initially, I walked around without taking my camera, having just arrived at the Hotel, but after spotting a Motmot and some other birds, quickly returned to my room and got out some gear to shoot.  Thinking I would likely not spot it again, I was happy to come across this beautiful Motmot.  It was late in the day, and ambient light was fading, so I relied on my flash to bring out its beautiful colors and markings.
