Costa Rica Photography Workshop

Feb. 26 - March 8, 2010

After an absence of almost 2 years, it was a joy to return to one of my favorite photographic destinations - Costa Rica!

We returned to one of my favorite locations - Cerro de la Muerte, staying at the Savegre Lodge - in search of the Resplendant Quetzal, and we were not disappointed!  We also enjoyed seeing and shooting a wide variety of hummingbirds there as well.  We then journeyed to the Wilson OTS, where we encountered a number of Chestnut-mandibled Toucan, quite a few species of beautifully colored Tanagers, several Agouti, and a number of other bird species.  We continued on to Tiskita Lodge, on the southern Pacific coast, where we spent 4 days and nights.  In addition to 3-toed Sloths, Red-capped and Blue-crowned Manakins, we had several up-close and personal encounters with 3 species of monkeys - Squirrel, White-faced Capuchin, and Howlers, all of which had a number of babies traveling in their troops.  This was by far the best trip to see and shoot monkeys in all of my travels to Costa Rica.

I have posted 3 sets of images here, which I hope you will enjoy.  I also took a fair amount of High Definition Video on this trip, and will start the editing work on this shortly.  I hope to have an addition to my YouTube channel within a month or so.

Lastly, I continue to use the QStarz BT-Q1000 Platinum GPS Receiver to track my location while I'm shooting.  Then using the program RoboGeo, I can put the latitude and longitude for each image into the EXIF or 'Metadata' for each file, so I know exactly where I was when the shot was taken.  I can then create Google Earth files, to show the actual map locations for the photos, along with a thumbnail image.  If you have Google Earth installed, you can click or download the following files to see where the photos were taken: Birds1, Birds2, Other.
