The mother/baby pair from the previous shot kept climbing down the tree, ignoring the large onlooking crowd, and finally came all the way down, and rested on the ground.  From many prior trips, I was already aware that sloths stay in the trees all the time, coming down perhaps once a week to defecate.  So I was aware of this but had never seen it.  But this pair did in fact come all the way down, presumably for that purpose.
