We did have about an inch or two of snow the morning we left Socorro, and previous snow had left many of the mountains beautifully snowcapped. This is one of those shots (not typical for me) where I pre-visualize what I want to get. Most of the time I just like to be out there and follow my instincts, reacting to what is going on, but sometimes I have a particular shot in mind. Both approaches can yield good results, but I prefer the more spontaneous strategy in general.
