We found several Black-necked Stilts at Merritt Island. It was perhaps mid to late afternoon, so the sun was still fairly strong, creating the inevitable exposure challenge with this species. To maintain detail in the white feathers, the exposure will leave the darker parts of the bird underexposed. That's where the Shadows and Highlights tool of Photoshop comes to the rescue! I also like the pose here, as most of the other shots I have show them upright, feeding in the shallows.
