Bison were plentiful, found in many areas in Yellowstone. Getting this close to them gives you some appreciation of their massive size. They would frequently cross the Grand Loop Road, often just walking down the center, backing up traffic on both sides and creating quite a bit of congestion. (It's hard to see at this size, but that's a Brown-headed Cowbird in flight just in front of its head.)
