I saw this bee doing a fair amount of hovering over the sunlit bushes at the side of my house, and I spent a good half-hour trying to get a decent shot. Manual focus was out of the question. AutoFocus was challenging at best. Even though he did some hovering, it was still extremely tough to get close enough, get the AF locked in, and hit the shutter quickly enough before he was gone. I used the 100 mm lens this time: ISO 100, f/2.8, 1/1600 sec.
