After checking in at the Zion Lodge, we took the shuttle up to the Temple of Sinawava stop, and did the walk along the Virgin River. I got my tripod out of its case, and set it up for its first field use. I immediately had to face the challenge of taking pictures in Zion: sharp contrasts between light and dark because of the heights of the Canyon walls, and the brightness of the sun and sky. This shot was taken with the Canon 17-35L at 17 mm, ISO 100, f/18 and 1/10 second. Curves and Levels had to be worked with in my editor in order to bring out the shadow detail.
