As with my other trips to Costa Rica, one of the photographic difficulties encountered is having your subject (bird or monkey) somewhat high above you, in the trees, usually with bright, white skies. This makes it almost impossible to get acceptable images and exposures using just natural light. For this and similar shots, I used Manual for ambient light metering, to prevent the sky and background from blowing out, and used flash as the main source of light for the subject.
