It took me a little while to realize that this is the same Red-eyed Tree Frog that we associate with Costa Rica, but with its eyes closed. What is seen is the 'nictitating membrane' which protects its eyes, and which has a very intricate, unique pattern, no doubt helpful in terms of camouflage (they are nocturnal, and sleep during the day).
