We had arrived at Petrified National Forest in early afternoon, and scouted out promising locations for sunset. The sky was completely overcast, so we weren't expecting much, but we wanted to be prepared. As the afternoon progressed, the sky was unchanged, except for a narrow band of clearing at the horizon. We went ahead and set up, and waited. It was quite cold and windy, but we were hoping for some warm sunset light to break through. Fortunately, we were rewarded, and this shot and the next were the result.
